Working and professional biography of Mr. Jovan Angelus

Professional career:

  • 1972 – Member of Yugoslav Council for the Environment, established for the First World Conference for Environmental Protection, held in Stockholm;
  • 1972 – Editor for the environmental protection in “Galaxy” magazine;
  • 1976 – Long-standing editor of the first Yugoslav ecological magazine “The Man and the Environment”, published by Yugoslav Union for Environmental Protection;
  • 1979 – Majored in Environmental Protection at Center for multidiscipline studies, University of Belgrade, with thesis Information and Education on the Environmental problems;
  • 1996 – Founder and Executive Manager of non-government, non-profitable, non-political, expert organization for biodiversity conservation and sustainable development – Ecolibri-Bionet;
  • Authorized expert of International Union for Nature Conservation (IUNC) for biological diversity conservation, and Mediterranean group of this organization for Mediterranean biological diversity conservation;
  • Initiator and organizer of the National Conference”Education on the Environment”, Belgrade 2002;
  • Project Manager of the report-making on the state of ecological education in Serbia and Montenegro, which he presented, as OSCE representative, on the 5th Ministerial Conference “The Environment for Europe” in Kiev, in 2003;
  • Initiator and organizer of the First Regional Conference “Education on the Environment in the South-Eastern European countries towards European standards”, Belgrade 2003;
  • Expert on evaluation of the influence on the environment with international license;
  • 2004 – Member of the Mediterranean group of IUCN for Mediterranean protection;
  • Expert Manager and author of educational pilot-project on primary school teachers’ education: “The Millennium development goals – Challenges of the Environment and Sustainable Development”;
  • The founder of independent film and TV production of educational ecology movies for the children “Green Frame”;
  • He has published over 200 expert and other articles on protection and development of the environment, in expert magazines, as well as in popular press media (“Politika”, “Nin”, “Ilustrovana politika”, etc);
  • Participation on the 6th Ministerial Conference “Environment for Europe”, Belgrade 2007.
  • The initiator and author of the projects:

    • 2007 – Production of educational, ecological documentaries and motion pictures about water “Our Essential Water” and about waste management and re-cycling “Hidden Treasure”;
    • 2005 – 2008, Participation on the project “Adaptive Management Planning of Riverrine Wetlands along the Danube in Serbia”;
    • 2005 – Participation on the Congress of the Open Conference about Mountain Protection in Perth, Scotland, and poster presentation of data base about the Carpathian Serbia;
    • 2004 – Coordinator of the project “Data base of the natural and cultural heritage of the Carpathian Serbia”, executed by Ecolibri-Bionet and Institution for Environmental Protection of Serbia;
    • 2003 – The holder of the Evaluation Study of the influence in the environment, in the project of Swedish organization SIDA: “Integral Development of Milk Production ‘The River of Milk’ in Nis and surrounding”;
    • 2003 – The author of ideological project and editor-in-chief of “Encyclopedia of the Environment and Sustainable Development”, publishing project of Ecolibri-Bionet;
    • 2003 – The organizer of the Regional Conference “Education on the Environment in the South-Eastern European countries on the way to European standards”, organized by Ecolibri-Bionet;
    • 2002 – 2003, The organizer of the Regional Conference “Education on the Environment in Formal Education in the South-East European Countries – Needs, Achievements, Partnership, Perspectives”;
    • 2002 – The organizer of the National Conference “Education on the Environment”.
    • 1999 – “AVIS MARSILLIANA”, winter counting of migration bird species on the Danube;
    • 1999 – The author and Project Manager of informal education “Education of Rural Inhabitants of the Mountain Stara Planina on Natural Resources Protection and Sustainable Natural Resources Use”;
    • 1998 – The author and Project Manager of “Education of the Multiethnic Communities of the Mountain Sar Planina on Natural Resources Protection and Sustainable Natural Resources Use”;
    • 1996 – The founder and editor of “BIONET-VOICE”, as first expert Bulletin for encouragement and sustainable use of biodiversity;
    • 1995 – The editor of monograph “Biodiversity of FR Yugoslavia, with Overview of Internationally Important Species”, publishing project of the Faculty of Biology, University of Belgrade, and Ecolibri-Bionet.
